We believe people can be resilient when they or someone they love faces serious health challenges. We Have Experience With…
Individual Psychotherapy
In individual therapy, we will work together to define what is happening for you and identify your personal strengths. We will set reasonable goals and work to achieve theme.
We also provide services via telehealth in the event you experience barriers to meeting in person, such as inclement weather, mobility, or inability to find care for your loved one during an appointment.
Couples Therapy
Having a chronic illness or acquired disability requires effective communication and healthy problem-solving. I will work with you and your partner to build relationship skills to enhance the way you cope as a couple.
Family Therapy
Old habits of communication and family dynamics can be difficult to manage in the context of a major health event. In family therapy, we identify patterns of relating to one another and actively seek solutions and meaningful roles for all family members.
Group Therapy
Group therapy provides patients with the opportunity to meet others with a similar condition. It might seem intimidating at first, and most people who participate in a therapy group feel this way initially. But, this shared experience can be invaluable as part of treatment and recovery.
Common Medical Conditions
I have provided psychotherapy to patients with the following co-occurring medical conditions: chronic pain, stroke, traumatic brain injury, organ transplant, cancer, spinal cord injury, amputation, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, vestibular disorders, digestive diseases, and psychogenic/somatic/functional conditions. I’ve also worked with folks recovering from motor vehicle accidents as well as less common conditions, such as Guillon-Barre and mitochondrial disease.
Please note: not all patients experiencing these conditions are good candidates for psychotherapy, as their condition might preclude them from participating in a meaningful way. In such cases, therapy with caregivers might be a better route. Either way, I am happy to meet for an initial session with all stakeholders to determine the best course of action.
Our Approach & Philosophy
The approaches we use are evidence-based, meaning there is scientific research and clinical experience supporting our rationale for intervention. We don’t believe in taking a one-size-fits-all approach, so you can rest assured your treatment will be personalized and collaborative. We pay particular attention to cultural and societal variables impacting your life.
We love psychotherapy, and we love what we do. We’re looking forward to our time together.
